Painted Desert Golf Club is one of those Las Vegas secrets that the local golfers almost hope you don't find. It's a Vegas reasonable golf course ($109 high season rates) that's a quick 15-minute drive from The Strip and it happens to be one of the best conditioned courses in the Valley.

The fairways show barely a trace of even the hint of brown, and the large greens stand out even more. These greens are really green. Many much better-publicized courses would be wise to emulate Painted Desert's focus on course conditions.

The course isn't a desert punisher. It winds through a subdivision and its desert is very tame. You can hit out of most of the large waste areas. It's safe to keep that 20-foot long ball retriever gadget in the bag here.
