The Canyon/Lakes Course at the Spanish Trail Golf & Country Club is one of three 18-hole courses at the club. Each golf course is comprised of two individual nines with a total of three at the club. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed all 27 holes. Characteristic of many the designer's courses, priority is placed on accurate approach shots due to the fast and undulating greens. The Canyon nine is the longest and most challenging of the three nines. This golf course gets its name from its sloping fairways and greens. The last three holes on this course will test even the most skilled golfers. The second nine, the Lakes Course, is aptly named as water comes into play on six holes. On five of those six holes, there is water bordering the greensides. There are also many forced carriers over water for additional challenge. The signature hole of the Lakes Course is the third, which is a scenic par 3 that requires a carry over two lakes.
